Noggins, once thought to be mere myth, were thrust into the world in December of 1912, by the discovery of their historical record by Professor GetaGrip. This event changed history and science forever, bringing Noggins abruptly out of the shadow of legend, and into the light of reality.
Professor GetaGrip
Professor GetaGrip, an archeologist, scientist, and expert in the field of fine and visual motor skills, dedicated his life to the pursuit of the elusive Noggin. His discovery of the Noggin historical record plunged him into fame. He received multiple honorary degrees, and is now regarded as the leading authority on all things Noggin by the scientific community.
The Historical Periods
The Historical record has revealed an amazing evolution of Noggins over time. They have developed in very clear stages. There are six specific historical periods noted by Professor GetaGrip. They are as follows: The External Magnetic, The Internal Magnetic, The Unilateral Adhesive, The Clamp Connection, The Permanent Fold, and The Repositionable Fold.
The External Magnetic Period
This original, and primitive design was quite limited. It allowed attachment to only metal scissor blades, and only in one direction. Separate Noggins were needed for right-handed and left-handed scissors.
The Internal Magnetic Period
This period saw the evolution into a double-sided design, allowing one Noggin to fit either left-handed or right-handed scissors. There was also a strengthening of the magnets, and a positioning of them within the Noggin. However, this era still only saw an available attachment to metal bladed scissors.
The Unilateral Adhesive Period
Interestingly, this period saw a regression back to the original design, requiring two separate Noggins, one for left-handed scissors, and one for right-handed scissors. With that said, there was a remarkable development in attachment capability, using adhesive rather than magnets. This allowed for adherence to a variety of materials, no longer limiting Noggins to metal blade scissors.
The Clamp Connection Period
This unique era in Noggin history saw a peculiar transition to a clip-on style attachment method, sparking debate in the scientific community as to whether there was outside influence in the Noggin’s development. This style was beneficial in that it could attach to virtually any shape, size, and material scissors, as well as being able to flip to accommodate for left and right-handed users. This design ultimately changed due to a low attachment strength.
The Permanent Fold Period
This period of evolution saw the most important and remarkable change. The Noggins took on a butterfly form, now able to fold over onto their mirror image. This took Noggins beyond the limits of being solely used with scissors. They were now attachable to virtually anything, pencils, markers, tweezers, etc. They reverted back to using adhesives, and continued to be permanent at this time.
The Repositionable Fold Period
This last stage in the development of Noggins sharpened the previous design, now using a comfortable foam, with images being directly printed on them. They continued to take advantage of the butterfly form, but now utilized a repositionable adhesive, which allowed them to switch between a variety of tools with ease.
Conclusion
Noggins have a wonderfully rich and intriguing history. Once thought to be mythical creatures, we now know they were and are real, thanks to this historical record, discovered by the tenacious and passionate Professor GetaGrip.
